Support for the proper function of the adrenal glands
· The adrenal glands are triangular shaped glands located on top of the kidneys.
· The adrenal glands produce hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, steroids, cortisol, and cortisone, and chemicals such as adrenalin (epinephrine), norepinephrine and dopamine.
· When the adrenal glands produce more or less hormones than required by the body, disease conditions may occur.
Adrenal (enzymatic treated gland) – Glandular and nonglandular tissue or extracts of tissue. Improves the function of the gland or organ from which the extract was produced. Adrenal extracts have putative antiallergic and anti-inflammatory activities. (4)
Calcium – Necessary to opening secretory abilities of endocrine glands. In addition, overactivity of the adrenal glands decreases calcium absorption and increases calciuria. (2)
Lipoic Acid – Increases ATP production in the body.(3) Potent antioxidant effective against water- & fat-soluble free radicals.(4) Also enhances antioxidant activity of vitamins C & E.
Pantothenic Acid (B5) – B vitamins are often depleted in states of stress. Pantothenic acid is necessary for the production of adrenal hormones, the steroids & cortisol. (1) A deficiency of pantothenic acid will cause adrenal atrophy.
Pituitary (enzymatic treated gland) - Glandular and nonglandular tissue or extracts of tissue. Improves the function of the gland or organ from which the extract was produced. (4) Pituitary is included due to its role in the HPA axis.
Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate – Important in nervous system & immune function. (1) The active form of pyridoxine.
Riboflavin (B2) – Important in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates & proteins as well as certain amino acids. (1) Increases cellular energy production.
Thiamin (B1) – Important in carbohydrate metabolism & energy production. (1) Potentiates & mimics acetylcholine function in the brain.
Thymus - Glandular and nonglandular tissue or extracts of tissue. Improves the function of the gland or organ from which the extract was produced. Thymus extracts have putative immunomodulatory activities. (4) Thymus is included since immune function is affected by adrenal malfunction.
Vitamin C – In addition to antioxidant activity, vitamin C is required for appropriate adrenal gland function. Important in the production of anti-stress hormones. (1)
Zinc – Found in the adrenal tissue, it is involved in over 100 enzyme activities. Synergistic with thiamine, P-5-P & pantothenic acid.
